It often happens that you might need to print WhatsApp messages from an iPhone, e.g. to present them as evidence in court. You might also want to turn your Whatsapp chat into a stylish book and present it as a gift. Unfortunately, there is no direct method to print the chat from the app; however, you can use your computer to do that. In this article, you will learn how to print WhatsApp chat as evidence or as a book.
Print WhatsApp chat as evidence for court
With the advance of technology, WhatsApp messages can be used as evidence in court. However, there are some requirements for the printed evidence:
-
The cell number of all chat participants should be clearly displayed
-
There should be a time stamp next to each message
Of course, you can make screenshots on your iPhone by scrolling down the chat and capturing each screen individually. Please keep in mind that you will have to delete some contacts from your Address Book in order to have the cell numbers displayed in WhatsApp chats. Thankfully, you won’t have to swipe left to reveal the time stamp like in iMessages – that’s a relief.
To make a screenshot, press Power and Hold buttons simultaneously. If you are an iPhone X user, press Power and Volume buttons.
This method sounds great, but even for a small chat, the process is really time-consuming. That’s why we encourage you to use our CopyTrans Contacts to print a WhatsApp chat for court. The whole process comes down to just a few clicks:
-
Download CopyTrans Contacts from the following page: Download CopyTrans Contacts
-
Install the program. If you need help installing CopyTrans Contacts, please refer to the Installation Guide.
-
Run CopyTrans Contacts and connect your iPhone. The program will start loading the iPhone data.
-
Now go to the Messages tab, click on “WhatsApp” and select the chat you want to backup and print.
-
Click on “Export Selected” in the top left corner and decide which format suits you best. We recommend PDF, as it is the most suitable format for viewing and printing your messages.
-
The chat is now placed on your PC, with cell numbers of all participants clearly visible and a timestamp attached for each message: all court regulations observed.
-
The only thing that is left to do is to actually print the chat. Use the shortcut Ctrl+P and hit Print..
Good luck in court!
Printing WhatsApp chat as a book
There are several online companies who can create a wonderful book from your WhatsApp conversations. They suggest you forward your conversation by email directly, so they could print it asap.
Even though the method is easy, it has a few major drawbacks:
-
A long chat with photos and gifs can be too big to transfer by email
-
If you care about your privacy, it is not recommended to disclose the contents of your message history to a third party
-
You won’t be able to manually select the specific period or messages you want to include – it’s all or nothing
-
You can try to edit your conversation and delete the unwanted parts, but it will definitely take a while
That is why we recommend doing it by yourself with CopyTrans Contacts. Make a complete WhatsApp book with all your pictures & emojis.
-

The WhatsApp chat is now on your computer, where you can click File and then Print.
All that is left now is to bind the printed files and add a personal touch.
BONUS: I don’t have the messages on my iPhone
If you want to print the messages from your iPhone, but no longer have them on the device – we can help here, too! The messages may still be in a backup on or off your PC (in iCloud) – just waiting to be found and extracted. For this purpose, we designed an application called CopyTrans Backup Extractor. It will automatically search for all local and iCloud backups and let you extract the data to your PC. If you wish to give it a try, we have a step-by-step instruction on how to get the messages from the backup to your PC in readable format.
