Calls and messaging

iOS 7 adds some interesting and much wanted tweaks in managing the way you stay in touch with people and the way others contact you.

Block people from contacting you

There’s now an easy way to block unwanted phone numbers from sending you messages or calling you. To block a person from contacting you simply open the Phone, Messages, or Contacts app and navigate to a recent number or contact entry. Tap “Contact” in the top right hand corner and select the “i” symbol. Finally scroll down and tap “Block this Caller”. block people from contacting you on ios 7

You can also get rid of those old contact entries on your iPhone address book by following the guide below:

Remove contacts from suggestion list

The inability to remove phone number entries from iPhone suggestions history was a real deal-breaker for many. Suggestions history is similar to an autofill feature and pops up when creating a new text message. It is based on your recent call and message history. remove contacts from recents

There was previously no way to remove unwanted contacts/numbers from the suggestions list. iOS 7 allows you to remove such entries easily by tapping on the “i” symbol and then tapping “Remove From Recents”. delete-recent-list-of-contacts-iphone

Delete messages in threads

Deleting entire message threads is straight-forward – simply open the Messages app, tap “Edit” and select the conversation you wish deleted. delete-message-threads-iphone

However, deleting individual messages within conversations is not that obvious. To do so open a message thread and tap and hold a message until you see a set of options appear. Next, tap “More”. delete-individual-messages-in-ios-7

You can then mark individual messages for deletion. To delete marked messages, tap the small Trash Can icon at the bottom left of your iPhone screen.

Before deleting the messages from the iPhone, you can back them up to the PC in case you need the deleted messages at a later time:

Show timestamp for each received/sent message

iOS 7 is minimalistic and clear. Staying faithful to the model, the Messages app does not include extra text such as timestamps for individual messages. However, you can quickly review this information by swiping your finger to the left once having opened a conversation. display timestamp for messages on iphone

Create calendar events from message keywords

Ever needed an easy way to mark a meeting in your agenda on the spot? iOS 7’s next ingenious feature allows you to create a calendar event right from within the Messages app. Just tap on an underlined text within any message and select “Create Event”. add calendar event from ios 7 messages
