How to turn off your iPhone when the power button is broken

I personally have a sad old iPhone 4S with a broken power button. I’ve dropped it numerous times (front and back completely shattered), poured hot water over it by accident, and now the home button is not responding from time to time. But I refuse to fix it (too expensive) or sell it (it’s a dear friend of mine, we go way back). The only big problem I have is the power button not working, so I can’t turn off, turn on or restart the iPhone like normal people. I let the battery die all the way, plug the iPhone back in, the whole nine yards.

Recently I’ve discovered an interesting feature in CopyTrans Apps, the program I use on a daily basis for transferring videos to my iPhone from my computer. With the help of CopyTrans Apps you can restart and turn off your iPhone without using the power button. Let’s start!

  2. Once you have installed CopyTrans Apps on your computer, open it by clicking the icon in CopyTrans Control Center

    Start CopyTrans Apps
  3. Click on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner, then click on “Settings”

  4. To restart your iPhone without using the power button, click “Restart device”

Restart iPhone without using power button
  5. The iPhone immediately restarts itself.

  6. To turn off your iPhone without using the power button, click “Shutdown device”

  7. Turn off iPhone without using power button
  8. To turn on your iPhone again, disconnect your device from your computer for a second and then plug it back in.

  9. There! Now you know a nifty trick on restarting and turning off the iPhone without using the power button.
